Day four

🌿 Carbon Footprint Workshop

A representative of the Skała town hall familiarized the audience with the pro-ecological activities of local authorities.

During today’s workshops Polish students presented a carbon-footprint calculator mobile application, which  they had been developing for the previous few weeks. Our partners learned the principles of carbon footprint calculation—measuring CO₂ emissions from daily actions like transport and consumption. Working in international groups, they tested a carbon-footprint calculator application, discussed results, and supported each other while estimating their real-world footprint. This fostered teamwork, communication, and digital skills aligned with Erasmus+ objectives.

🤸‍♀ Playtime Integration on the Clearing

After lunch in picturesque Ojców, a green clearing became a hub for playful integration activities. Students and teachers participated in team games—such as ball relays or ‘owners-renters!’ play —designed to break the ice, foster cooperation, and build peer connections. The informal environment encouraged even the more reserved participants to engage and bond as a group.

🔧 Visit: Eco-Incineration Plant in Krakow

A guided tour of Krakow’s state-of-the-art thermal waste-to-energy plant deepened students’ understanding of waste management and green energy. Learning about incineration, emissions control, and energy production connected theory to practice. Touring the facility and interacting with professionals improved civic awareness and field communication skills.

Key facts:

·        Capable of processing 220,000 t of waste/year

·        Meets EU’s “Best Available Techniques” standards

·        Produces heat and electricity for local use

Students’ presentation on Carbon Footprint – What Is a Carbon Footprint, Why it Matters, Biggest Contributes to a Person’s Carbon Footprint, How to Calculate Your Own Carbon Footprint,Ways to Reduce Your Carbon Footprint

Group activity – "CO₂ in a Bottle" Experiment: This interactive task helped students visually and experientially link CO₂ with heat retention—and offered excellent discussion material on experiment design and climate science.

Mixed student groups designed creative awareness posters titled “Carbon Friendly Heroes”, promoting eco-friendly habits such as using sustainable diet, zero-emission transport, reusable energy, waste segregation.

REMEMBER:

SMALL ACTIONS ADD UP AND EVERYONE HAS A ROLE TO PLAY IN TACKLING CLIMATE CHANGE

Students got encoureged to reflect on their habits and make more sustainable choices: saving energy, separating waste, and encouraging eco-friendly transport.

Let’s Build a Greener Digital World

As our lives become increasingly enmeshed with virtual spaces—from gaming and social platforms to the metaverse and cloud services—the question arises: Can we be environmentalists in the digital realm too?

The answer is a resounding YES!

While the virtual universe may seem intangible, its environmental impact is very real. Data centers powering our online lives consume massive amounts of energy, and blockchain technologies have faced criticism for their carbon footprints. But just as we recycle in the physical world, we can take actionable steps to "go green" in the digital one.

📘 Project Description

The project “Environmentalist Steps in the Virtual Universe” focuses on raising students’ environmental awareness through virtual and onsite activities. Partnering schools from Turkey, Poland, and North Macedonia collaborate to explore how modern technologies (e.g., e‑learning platforms, virtual reality environments) can support environmental education.

🎯 Project Goals

  1. Increase ecological knowledge – students learn about climate change, carbon footprint, recycling, and biodiversity.
  2. Develop digital competences – through virtual mobilities and online projects, they enhance IT skills, teamwork, and remote communication.
  3. Promote physical mobility between schools – giving students the chance to experience life in different countries, cultures, and practical environmental actions.
  4. Build a cooperation network – creating a lasting exchange of good ecological practices across the three countries and fostering school-level collaboration.
  5. Tackle language barriers – advancing students’ communication skills to enhance their self-reliance and confidence in social interactions.
